ISO 50001:2011 (The International Standard for Energy Management) is as much of a classical business tool as it is an environmental improvement mechanism.
Effective implementation of the standard guarantees improvements in energy efficiency – which guarantees cost savings. It is also a powerful ‘corporate image enhancement’ mechanism, as with a reduction in energy use comes a reduction in Carbon emitted to the atmosphere.
ISO 50001:2011 is designed to be easily integrated with other management systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, however it can be used as a standalone system – which may be appropriate for businesses that use a significant amount of energy but don’t have that many other environmental aspects.
The standard is based on the Plan Do Check Act ‘Deming’ cycle, and outlines the process and requirements for you to effectively manage energy reduction in your business.
NQA also offer training in Energy Management auditing and carbon strategy.
