60 Seconds with Dave Robinson

11 December 2017
In this month’s 60 Seconds NQA Auditor Dave Robinson tells us his top tips for getting the most out of your management system and how keeping on top of it makes things easier in the long run.

What standards do you audit?

ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, Eco Campus, OHSAS 18001 (soon to be the highly anticipated ISO 45001)

Most memorable auditing moment?

After turning up to audit a site I actually ended up splitting my trousers. Although it was one of the most embarrassing moments I’ve had it definitely broke the ice and made the auditing experience much more enjoyable as we were able to laugh about it for the rest of the day.

Greatest client benefit gained from ISO certification

There are some benefits that come up time after time and the main reasons for our customers to achieve certification is their ability to gain new customers, maintain a positive supply chain and manage internal processes effectively therefore saving crucial costs and time.

Keep on top of it. Unfortunately it’s not something that can be implemented and left. If the management system is implemented and then incorporated into the day-to-day business functions it’s much easier to maintain and far more effective in the long run.

Most common non-conformance

I see three main non-conformances that crop up all the time, and they are reasonably easy to avoid:

  • Waste transfer notes
  • Use of wrong logos
  • Previous findings not being acted upon
