PAS 43 Has Been Updated
In September 2018, a new version of PAS 43 was released. The previous version of PAS 43:2015 has been immediately withdrawn and the new version PAS 43:2018 will be used going forward for all audits from 10th December 2018.
Requirements introduced by PAS 43:2018 and their timescales for implementation can be found on the SURVIVE website.
PAS 43:2018 is intended to be read, and used, in conjunction with the current version of the SURVIVE Best Practice Guidelines [N1]. The SURVIVE Best Practice Guidelines primary objective is to help to ensure the safety of all concerned, whilst technicians are working on breakdowns, recoveries and removals on all types of roads. The SURVIVE Best Practice Guidelines are not intended to replace PAS 43, but are to be seen as complementary to PAS 43.
Some of the changes are:
-
Section 11 – Training Competence and behaviour of road recovery technicians.
-
Demonstrable technical competence in vehicle recovery and removal including electric vehicles;
What does this mean for you?
We will be auditing you against PAS 43:2018. To maintain your PAS 43 certification once you obtain it, you must pass annual inspection audits. Maintaining ISO 9001 certification requires yearly surveillance visits and a re-certification audit to be completed every three years. The surveillance visits serve to ensure that compliance is maintained during the period before the re-certification audit.
