NQA Business Improvement Training - GDPR - How to Think Like a Data Protection Officer (In-House Only)

0.5 Days Level 2 – Intermediate

This new short course, delivered by NQA expert Tim Pinnell, is designed to give professionals advanced guidance into managing their data security, the legislation and importance behind GDPR for organisations and tips to ensure you remain compliant. This course will start at 9am and finish at approx midday.

Quite often organisations appoint someone to take on additional Data Protection Officer-like duties, rather than recruit a dedicated specialist, but privacy legislation can often seem complex and obscure. This course aims to try and unmask some of the complexities and help those tasked with their organisation's GDPR compliance understand how to move forward with the mind of a Data Protection Officer.

**Please note that we encourage all our delegates sitting on virtual courses to have access to a webcam. This will enable you to interact with both the tutor and other course attendees.**

We have no public courses scheduled for this course right now, get in touch to find out more about booking an in-house training course, call 0800 052 2424 or email us.

Course aims

This virtual 3-hour course aims to provide an interactive, technical dive into the techniques and processes involved with GDPR legislation and requirements and learning how to think like a Data Protection Officer (DPO).

It will demonstrate that compliance to GDPR requires an ability to interpret law, even in the absence of legal training. It will show how there can be many factors to take into account in order provide appropriate compliance advice.

This short course is not an introduction or explanation of GDPR. Instead it will give you an insight into how a privacy professional, such as a DPO or privacy auditor, considers privacy issues. It is based around a worked example and in so doing will help demystify GDPR and the DPA 2018. It will provide some fundamentals for considering the impact of personal data processing activities and the interplay between various privacy legislation in the UK.

What will I learn?

Delegates will leave with knowledge of:

  • The fundamentals of risk-based processing of personal data

  • The interaction between UK and EU privacy legislation

  • How to interrogate an organisation’s processing activities

  • The appropriate selection of lawful bases for processing

  • Issues with de-identification techniques

  • The nuances of GDPR that can enable processing in certain circumstances

  • Evidence to demonstrate compliance to GDPR
