What is ISO 39001?
ISO 39001:2012 is the international standard that provides the framework for Road Traffic Safety Management System (RTSMS). It can allow organisations who work with the Road Traffic systems improve overall safety and reduce the risk of injuries or death caused by road traffic accidents. Organisations that are committed to improving road safety will benefit from implementing ISO 39001.
“Every year the lives of approximately 1.35 million people are cut short as a result of a road traffic crash. Between 20 and 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury.” (World Health Organisation, 2018) According to gov.uk in 2018, there were a total of 1,784 people killed and 25,511 seriously injured casualties in reported traffic accidents in the UK.
ISO 39001:2012 follows the common structure provided by Annex SL, which makes it compatible with other management standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, making it more effective and efficient to integrate management systems.

HSE estimates that up to a third of all road traffic accidents involve work-related road incidents, injuries or deaths, preventing and reducing the risk of such accidents is a global priority.

Steps to Certification

Step 1
Complete a Quote Request Form so that we can understand your company and requirements. You can do this by completing either the online quick quote or the online formal quote request form. We will use this information to accurately define your scope of assessment and provide you with a proposal for certification.

Step 2
Once you’ve agreed your proposal, we will contact you to book your assessment with an NQA Assessor. This assessment consists of two mandatory visits that form the Initial Certification Audit. Please note that you must be able to demonstrate that your management system has been fully operational for a minimum of three months and has been subject to a management review and full cycle of internal audits.

Step 3
Following a successful two stage audit, a certification decision is made and if positive, then certification to the required standard is issued by NQA. You will receive both a hard and soft copy of the certificate. Certification is valid for three years and is maintained through a programme of annual surveillance audits and a three yearly recertification audit.
