World Accreditation Day 2022

09 June 2022
June 9th marks World Accreditation Day (#WAD2022).

World Accreditation Day is a global initiative established by IAF and ILAC with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of accreditation and how it can benefit organizations from all corners of the planet.

Building on last year's theme focused on supporting the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the theme for 2022 is 'Sustainability in Economic Growth and the Environment'.

The IAF explains, "The world economy relies heavily on natural resources provided by healthy ecosystems, and yet we continue to put these ecosystems through enormous stress and to consume resources at an alarming rate. Accreditation, alongside other quality infrastructure tools including metrology, standardization, conformity assessment and market surveillance, can support the shift to a circular economy and more sustainable forms of production. Use of standards can help organizations adopt more eco-friendly practices, with accredited conformity assessment providing assurance that organizations are meeting requirements and fulfilling claims".

Industry has a vital role to play in protecting the environment, and at NQA we believe that certification and standards are essential in order to create a sustainable future. The use of management systems within a company can help to meet objectives such as addressing environmental impact or achieving carbon neutrality.

Some of the solutions that help support sustainability in economic growth and the environment include:

  • PAS 2060 - the standard for Carbon Neutrality

  • ISO 14001 - the ISO standard for Environmental management and performance
  • ISO 50001 - the ISO standard for Energy management

  • GHG Inventory  - to help you calculate your carbon footprint

  • ISO 45001 - the ISO standard for Occupational Health & Safety management

  • ISO 9001 - the ISO standard for Quality management

  • ISO 22000 - the ISO standard for Food Safety management

Each year the day is celebrated globally through events, workshops and across all major media channels, to demonstrate how accreditation and certification can help deliver a safer, more consistent, responsible world and how this can be improved upon moving forward. You can find out more here.
