ISO 45001, the highly anticipated ISO standard for health and safety management systems has now reached Draft International Standard 2 (DIS 2) status.
Now available as a 2nd Draft International Standard (DIS 2), the standard opens for public balloting on the 19 May 2017. Once open you will be able to review the standard online for free and comment on the standard on a clause by clause basis until 18 June 2017.
There have been a number of delays on the publication of ISO 45001, due to the rejection by the International standards bodies, which led to some commentators to suggest that there could be further delays. However, the publication of this second DIS Standard brings ISO 45001 another step closer to publication.
Once balloting has closed the next step in the publication process will be the publication of the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) followed by the publication of ISO 45001 which is still expected by the end of 2017.
NQA are already providing detailed guidance and practical tools, including a gap analysis, to help organizations with OHSAS 18001 to migrate to ISO 45001 and those who are starting from scratch to plan implementation. We will shortly be updating this guidance documentation in line with DIS 2 and will advise of any changes.
