International Day of Clean Energy

The International Day of Clean Energy is built upon the founding of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which was also on this date back in 2009. The IRENA is a global agency supporting countries with data, analysis and energy transitions.

The term clean energy describes a source of energy produced with a minimal impact on the environment, leading to a reduced carbon footprint.

It aids in replacing many of the historic energy sources like oil, coal and natural gas. Clean energy is critical in becoming more sustainable for organisations and individuals alike and largely relies on renewable energy.

What is renewable energy?

Renewable energy comes from natural sources that are self-replenishing, therefore mitigating the risk of running out of energy. Examples include:

  • Wind (wind power)

  • Sunlight (solar power)

  • Water (tidal power)

Clean energy use is essential in taking action on increasing climate change pressures.

With growing environmental issues, taking advantage of clean energy sources, such as renewable energy rather than traditional fossil fuels, is critical in striving toward a more sustainable future.

A green future for businesses

Increasing numbers of organisations are choosing clean energy options to support sustainability, commercial and financial goals.

By reducing their carbon footprint through clean energy options, businesses can:

  • Demonstrate their commitment to the environment

  • Enhance their corporate social responsibility

  • Enjoy cost savings and improved visibility on consumption

  • Improve their reputation and competitive advantage

  • Appear as more attractive among current and potential employees
