More F-Gas Units Now Within The Scope Of Leak Testing

26 January 2017

As of 1st January 2017 provisions in Regulation (EU) 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases came into force that mean more equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases will now need to be leak checked.

What is the new legislation:
Regulation (EU) 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases.
Who does this affect: England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland
When does this change take place: 1st January 2017

Equipment that contains less than 3 kg of fluorinated greenhouse gases or hermetically sealed equipment, which is labelled accordingly and contains less than 6 kg of fluorinated greenhouse gases will need to be leak tested. There was previous derogation in place exempting these units from the leak test requirement. The additional requirement only applies to units containing less than 3Kg (or 6Kg if hermetically sealed) of refrigerants but where the CO2 equivalent figure is now over 5 tonnes.
