The Building (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2023

Amends/Commences: The Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004

Comes into force: 1st April 2024

Jurisdiction: Scotland

New domestic and non-domestic buildings completed after 1st April 2024 are no longer allowed to be heated or cooled using a direct emission heating system, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This does not apply to: 

  • alterations to, or extension of, a pre-2024 building;

  • building work completed before April 2024;

  • building work contracted to start before April 2024 and finish before 1st July 2024;

  • emergency heating; or

  • heating provided solely for the purpose of frost protection.
