Chain of Custody

FSC® and PEFC Project

Certifies timber use in one-off projects like construction.

FSC® and PEFC Project

FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody project certification proves that forest products are from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources.

About FSC® and PEFC chain of custody project certification

When it comes to individual projects, the construction industry faces specific challenges in proving that the timber specified and supplied to the project is from legal sources and supports sustainable forestry worldwide.

Project Chain of Custody certification is a means of independently verifying the use of certified timber in a construction project and allowing the industry to use the certification trademark to support sustainable forestry.

Please be informed the NQA Management Review Meeting took place on 12th August 2025. We value feedback from our stakeholders, please share your thoughts with us by sending your comments to enquiries@nqa.com.

Helps you with

On individual construction projects, the construction industry faces specific challenges when proving that the timber specified and supplied is from sustainable sources.

FSC® and PEFC chain of custody project certification has been designed as a mechanism for gaining independent verification of the use of certified timber in a one-off project such as a construction project.

Benefits include:

  • Proof of trace-ability certification of the timber or timber-derived products within a construction project provides independently verified assurance that the wood used originates from Responsibly Managed Forests and other controlled sources.

  • Independent third party verification certification represents a fraction of the cost of the overall build and proves that your project has been rigorously audited to an international standard.

  • Compliance with legislation and risk management.

  • Project certification is compatible with environmental building standards such as BREEAM and LEED and ensures that wood from unknown, illegal and controversial sources is excluded.

  • Recognition that not all sub contractors need to be certified as they are covered by the main contractor's umbrella certification.

  • The ability to use the responsibly sourced trademark helps businesses promote and communicate their commitment to sustainability.

  • Assurance to clients that they are contributing to environmental and economic best practice.

  • Companies can provide assurance to suppliers and clients that their projects contribute to the highest levels of environmental, ecological, social and economic standards.
