What Does Virtual Training Really Look Like?

10 July 2020
As with most organisations, NQA Training has had to adapt to the current climate in order to continue bringing expert training to our customers.

In the past, our core focus has been public facing training courses, whether it's at a purpose-built venue or in-house at various organisations across the UK. In order to maintain the same levels of service, we have switched to providing our training courses virtually and have had enormous success with this. Initially we were met with some hesitation from our customers and I am sure there are still virtual training sceptics out there.

Here are some answers to the questions you may have:

How does virtual training work?

We've taken great care to ensure that our virtual training courses provide the same experience as our regular public-facing training courses. We've trialled various platforms to facilitate our training courses and we are confident we have found the one that works best. Our tutors have been given the necessary training to use this platform, ensuring they can provide effective and engaging training; expected from all tutors at NQA.

We've made changes to course material to allow you to complete exercises effectively. The course structures have been modified to include frequent breaks away from the screen as we know this can be tough going in longer stints.

Holding the training online has additional benefits... firstly it can be much more convenient. All you need is a laptop or computer to participate... no need to travel; no need for accommodation; no added expenses. Another benefit of online training is we are able to record the sessions. These will be made available to you after the course for revision purposes.

Will I have access to the same course material?

Yes – all course materials will be provided to you via the NQA training portal. All of the material will be available to download ahead of the course for use during your training. The course presentation will be available to view on the NQA training portal indefinitely. You will also be given access to the necessary standards for the course you are taking part in.

Is virtual training as effective as classroom learning?

This is where most customers have raised their concerns. The best way to answer this query is from the learners themselves:

‘When I first received the email about the course being live, I thought “oh no!” but it went really well. Worked well with small number of delegates. No tech issues after the initial start which was great with the right number of breaks.’ Mizkan Europe

‘Martin provided us with plenty of opportunity to raise questions and engaged us in a lot of activity and conversation, checking our learning at every stage. Given that we were in a virtual environment, Martin ran the course very professionally, maintaining the engagement and interaction you would typically gain from a face to face environment.’ Belinda Bishop MICW, Quality and Compliance Director, STM Group (UK) Ltd

‘I understand the course being held via a webinar process was new ground for you, and myself in that matter, doing a course outside of a classroom environment was certainly different. I think your team did a fantastic job, Olivier was great at answering any questions I had. And the course was delivered well. The course itself was valuable towards my current position. And I thank you for putting all that effort in to still be able to deliver the course.’ Matthew Millward, QHSE & Compliance Coordinator at Locate Supplies Ltd
