About your company

I have been a self-employed consultant for 2 years, following 20 years of implementing and running Management Systems in the construction and manufacturing sectors. Therefore, I understand what it takes to run a system in the real world and design my systems accordingly.

Over the last 10 years environmental/sustainability programmes established by Robinson 4S Consulting have won over 40 industry awards in both NI and the UK. These include:

  • BITC - Responsible Company of the Year

  • Considerate Constructors Scheme - Most Considerate Site

  • ROSPA - International Dilmun Environmental Trophy.

Why do you like working with NQA?

I have always been impressed by the Quality of NQA’s Auditors, they are very knowledgeable and approach the audit with a positive attitude that means they can help to add real value for clients. The back office at NQA is also excellent, scheduling is reliable and certificates are processed quickly, this can be hugely important to my clients.

Top tip for people looking at certification?

Get your audit date booked in! Work will always be busy and certification projects can often drift, however when you have an audit date booked it focuses minds and gives you a deadline to work towards.

What do you find is the most common point of misunderstanding regarding certification or specific standards when visiting clients?

I find organisations often underestimate the importance of the context section in most standards, it should not be just a company brochure but more a way of establishing what’s important in relation to the company and standard. As such, it is the foundation a good system should be built upon.

What is at the top of your agenda right now?

The climate crisis... It's my belief that businesses need to adapt their activities to mitigate the impact climate change will have. Business that act first will have a serious advantage over their competitors who are leaving it too late to adapt and change. To this end I am currently working with several clients to incorporate the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their management systems.
