60 Seconds With David Quinn

In our latest 60 Seconds, we sit down with David Quinn, one of our Business Development Managers, to learn about his role, achievements, interests and much more...

What does your role involve?

My role primarily involves supporting larger clients in achieving their desired ISO standards. I work closely with organisations that have complex requirements, guiding them from initial enquiry through to quotation. This includes determining appropriate audit durations and addressing any technical queries they may have.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy meeting new people and seeing how different businesses work! As I work with businesses from all different sectors, it exposes me to industries that I wouldn’t normally see. I also enjoy the thrill of winning a deal and a client choosing NQA to be their certification body. Rather then just trying to get a company to sign for us, I take pride in getting them to the outcome they require. It would be easy for me to tell every business I speak to they need every certification that we provide. But that isn’t the approach that I, or the wider business take. We are here to guide you through the process, make sure you are getting value from what we provide and answer any questions along the way.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

In a former career I was a Police Officer for Lancashire Constabulary until I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis which led me to choosing a less action filled career. I used to really struggle telling people this but it important to spread the awareness of the condition and who says ISO certification cant be as adrenaline pumping as chasing down a suspect...

Are there any books, podcasts or series you’d recommend?

When I became a dad for the first time I found Chris Bumsteads podcast interview on Modern Wisdom inspiring - especially how having children changes you as a person. More day to day I would say the Guardian Football Weekly for any football fans.

A proud moment or achievement

Professionally I would say establishing myself as a business development officer at NQA. Leaving the police meant restarting my career pretty much from scratch and while I fell into the ISO world, I feel that I have been able to make a good success of it so far. I am also proud that I became a Police Office previously , its an incredibly hard job and I am happy that I was able to make a small impact to the community I worked in. Cliché but also my son, Lando.

What’s a project you’re excited to be working on right now?

I’ve recently been collaborating with the NQA marketing team on more video content. I am by far not a natural in front of the camera but it is a new skill to develop as we do more!
