60 Seconds with Tim Woodcome

31 May 2016
Tim Woodcome discusses the pride of ownership companies get from going through the certification process and his most memorable auditing moment.

What standards do you audit against?

ISO 9001, ISO 14001, TL 9000, ISO 22301, and ESD

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE AUDITING MOMENT?

Oh brother!  The first major non-recommendation. You have to deliver the information to the customer who then has to accept it and move forward.  It was very stressful.  But in the end, the organization implemented their corrective action and at the follow up recognized that they were better for it.

What is the most common non-conformance you encounter?

Given that a number of my audits are in TL9000, the most common area is in the 9000 measurements.  There are a lot of requirements and accounting rules for data gathering, so this is the area with the most opportunities for errors.

What is the greatest client benefit you've seen gained from ISO certification?

I’ll say 2 things.  One is the pride of ownership companies get out of going through the process and the improvements they make.  Secondly would be that ISO certification provides the structure and foundation for organizations to improve and to grow their businesses.

What's your top tip for getting the most out of your management system?

Use it every day!  Incorporate it into your regular business activities.  Be on the lookout for action items and opportunities for improvement.
