60 Seconds with Dani Chapman

Meet Dani, our Senior Competency Executive, who joined NQA following the integration of BM Trada. In this latest 60 Seconds blog, she shares insights into her role, professional skills, hobbies outside of work and more!

About my role

I’ve worked with what was previously BM Trada for 15 years and in my most recent role I managed the onboarding process for our CoC and RSPO auditors, from arranging their shadow audits to getting them signed off. I also prepare and monitor the ongoing witness audit programme, from sourcing the audits, through to completion. Going forward, I’ll also be supporting the delivery of technical competency activities for our international teams which is something I’m really looking forward to getting more involved in.

A professional skill you're proud of

I’m particularly proud of being a Mental Health First Aider. Mental health and wellbeing are topics I’m genuinely passionate about and I’m constantly learning more each day to better my knowledge and understanding. I value being able to use my empathetic nature to support colleagues and have seen first hand how beneficial it is to have dedicated people in the workplace who are there to listen. I also really appreciate that NQA encourages personal development through training opportunities like mental health first aid.

A book, podcast, series, advice you’d recommend

Two of my favourite podcasts that I’ve been listening to for years are Happy Place with Fearne Cotton, which features conversations about mental wellbeing, personal challenges and different perspectives on happiness, and Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, which is all about food; Perfect for any fellow foodies!

Outside of work

Outside of work, I love keeping fit and taking part in hybrid races, my next one is only six weeks away. I also really enjoy food! My favourite thing to do, is to cook for friends and family, and most weekends you’ll find me with my husband and two children cooking a big Sunday roast.

I’m very creative and previously ran my own illustration business alongside this job, before having my second child. These days, I channel that creativity in to my daughter’s love of art and getting wonderfully messy with my Girlguiding Rainbows each week. I also love learning whenever I can find a spare moment and I’m currently in the midst of submitting assessments for my Level 2 Certificate in Children and Young People’s Mental Health.
