60 Seconds with Adrian Brissett

In our latest 60 Seconds, we sit down with Adrian Brissett Rafferty, one of our valued Information Security Auditors to discover insights into his role, fun facts, hobbies outside of work and more!

About my role

My role is to ensure that organisation’s are effectively managing their information security risks in line with internationally recognised standards, typically, ISO/IEC 27001, although among other standards. I review the organisation’s Information Security Management System (ISMS), which includes policies, procedures, and controls designed to protect sensitive data. My aim is to assess whether these elements are documented, implemented and maintained in practice.

As part of my work, I conduct formal audits, which may include initial certification assessments, surveillance visits, or recertification audits. During these, I examine how well the organisation identifies and mitigates risks, manages incidents, and ensures business continuity. I also provide clear, constructive feedback. Whether it's through detailed audit reports or verbal debriefs, I help organisation’s understand where they stand and what steps they need to take to improve. My ultimate goal is to evaluate and support continuous improvement in their security posture.

Outside of work

Outside of work, I have a strong interest in English literature, which feeds into my love of storytelling and language. When I’m looking to unwind, I turn to playing the piano, which offers a creative and calming outlet. These interests keep me balanced and inspired, and often bring fresh perspective to my professional work.

A book, podcast, series, advice you’d recommend

It’s difficult to recommend a book, as there are so many brilliant books! As Confucius once said, “You cannot open a book without learning something". That quote really resonates with me, every book offers a new insight, and I find that reading helps me grow both personally and professionally.

A proud moment or achievement at work

A proud moment for me was making the transition into the role of an auditor. Earlier this year, I successfully passed a witness audit, which was a significant milestone in my professional journey. I also completed training on key international standards including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001, which deepened my understanding of quality, environmental, and information security management systems. What makes this achievement especially meaningful is how the role has allowed me to bring together all the strands of my industry experience, from project management and software engineering to business analysis and cybersecurity. It’s been incredibly rewarding to apply that knowledge in a way that adds real value to organisation’s, helping them strengthen their systems and meet global standards.

Fun fact:

I hold an MA in Screenwriting. While my day-to-day work focuses on information security and compliance, I have a deep passion for storytelling and character development. Crafting screenplays allows me to explore creativity in a completely different way, yet interestingly, both screenwriting and auditing require structure, attention to detail, and a strong narrative. It’s a unique blend that keeps me sharp and inspired.
