Circular Economy and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2022
06 December 2022
Amends/Commences: New Legislation
Comes into force: 21st July 2022
Jurisdiction: Republic of Ireland
This Act has been introduced to allow Ireland to transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is a closed-loop system aimed at tackling global challenges such as biodiversity loss, waste, pollution and climate change, where the focus is on reducing the use of raw materials and eliminating waste by reusing, recycling, and refurbishing existing goods, products and materials.
To achieve this, it introduces a circular economy fund and programme, an environmental levy, prohibition on the sale of certain single-use items and a national food waste prevention strategy.
