Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022

As part of the plan to address climate change, this Act sets targets for Northern Ireland to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. One of its targets includes achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The Act is divided into 6 sections, which are as follows.

• Part 1- Emissions targets and sectoral plans.

• Part 2 - Carbon budgets.

• Part 3 - Reports and statements against targets and budgets.

• Part 4 - Reports by Committee on climate change.

• Part 5 - Further oversight.

• Part 6 - Supplementary.

Part 1 of the Act contains plans to meet emissions target for various sectors, such as:

• energy;

• renewable electricity consumption;

• infrastructure ;

• industrial processes;

• waste management;

• agriculture;

• fisheries;

• transport; and

• active travel.
