These Regulations allow aerodynamic rear devices and elongated cabs to be used on heavy vehicles (HGVs) in Great Britain. These changes were made to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and fuel consumption, and to improve driver visibility. Aerodynamic rear devices and elongated cabs must be type-approved, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 1230/2012 implementing Regulation (EC) 661/2009 with regard to type-approval requirements for masses and dimensions of motor vehicles and their trailers ('The Type Approval Masses and Dimensions Regulations').
