The Transfrontier Shipment of Radioactive Waste and Spent Fuel Regulations 2008

Administrative updates are made to remove and replace out of date refernces with Annex VII to Directive 2013/59/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation. Annex VII gives an overview on exemption and clearance levels and clearance criteria.
 
The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009

These Regulations now apply in relation to the carriage of class 7 goods by inland waterway including:

  • New requirements and duties to comply for approved tanks designed to retain residual vapours after the unloading of petrol.
  • Previous requirements of Regulation 24 have been removed and are replaced with new requirements that cover radiation emergencies and notifiable events, applying to the carriage of class 7 goods only.
  • Schedule 2 is updated to make provisions in connection with radiation emergencies and imposes notification obligations in situations where radioactive material is lost or stolen.
  • Transitional provisions relating to what is acceptable as a legal defence under the 2009 Regulations have been inserted.
