Carbon dioxide equivalent emissions targets are set in support of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045, as required under the Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets) (Scotland) Act 2024 (a previous update to the 2009 Act). The targets cover the Scottish carbon budget periods from 2026 to 2045.
