NQA Proud to Support the Armed Forces Community
22 June 2017
NQA have recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant and are extremely proud and committed to honouring the Covenant and supporting the Armed Forces Community. We recognise the value that serving personnel, regular and reservists, veterans and military families, contribute to our business and our country.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly. This could be through working with businesses, local authorities, charities or community organizations to support the armed forces and their families through services, policy and projects.
Over the last year, NQA has been actively speaking to Armed Forces veterans who are looking for that next step in their careers. Veterans have a range of interpersonal, leadership and technical skills which they can offer to certification bodies like NQA. These skills, combined with extra support and training from NQA, can help veterans easily transfer into qualified Assessor roles.
Chris Smith is one of NQA’s newest recruits as an NQA Regional Assessor. Chris joined NQA back in February 2017, and having completed his training to be an Assessor, is already conducting audits across the UK. Prior to NQA, Chris worked as a Communication Specialist with the Royal Air Force, before leaving in 2016. His recent blog article “Life of a trainee auditor” explains how he has enjoyed going through his Assessor training process and would like to thank all of those who have supported him on his journey since he joined NQA.
“Every person we employ makes a difference to our customer service, technical knowledge and industry expertise. As a company, and a team, we are proud to be supporting the Armed Forces Community. We are excited about the potential of the Armed Forces Covenant and further supporting Veterans to adapt their skills and valuable life experiences in the Testing, Inspection and Certification industry”. Matt Gantley, NQA Managing Director
NQA’s audit team incorporates a wide and varied mix of veterans and civilians from all sectors and industries and is led by NQA’s Field and Technical Director, Mark Burgess. Mark is a Veteran himself having left the British Army back in 2009. His life experiences have helped him become a successful auditor and his leadership skills, gained as a Warrant Officer Class 1, continue to support him in his role as NQA’s Field and Technical Director.
“Here at NQA, we recognize the skills that people have achieved in the armed forces and strongly believe that it is of great benefit to employ those who have served”. Mark Burgess, NQA Field and Technical Director.
To support future veterans into employment with NQA, we have an industry day scheduled for 1st August 2017 when we will be inviting veterans into our Head Office in Dunstable. This event is designed to allow you to talk to Mark and the wider NQA team about the role of an Assessor and NQA’s training and induction program. Should you wish to book your place, please email careers@nqa.com.
