12 June 2019
The NQA USA team talks with Manufacturing Today about the future of ISO 9001 and risk management.

Recently, Buddy Cressionnie, NQA Aerospace, Space and Defense Fellow, was interviewed by Manufacturing Today to discuss the new ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems standard and how it can help manufacturers to prepare for the future and to find the opportunities lying within the risk.

The article evaluates why risk has been so heavily featured in the updated version of the standard which came into full effect on 15th September 2018, replacing the 2008 regulations.

A more in-depth look at the feature sees Buddy talk about when a company should begin to consider risks and the six main areas in which an organization should pay special attention:

  • Contracting

  • Business planning

  • Engineering

  • Purchasing

  • Production

  • Post-delivery

Buddy explains “Risk is defined in ISO 9000 as the risk of uncertainty. When analyzing the business, there is frequently a positive outcome, which may arise from the uncertainty, or a new opportunity based on evaluating the business. A fundamental ISO 9001 principle is improvement that can be realized from taking advantage of opportunities and preventing undesirable results to ensure business sustainability.”
