Health certification at import into the Union concerning transmissible spongiform encephalopathies

Regulation (EC) No. 999/2001 rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.

Annex IX is amended to state that Bovine animals infected with transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) or have been born in the same herd as or reared with an infected animal cannot be imported into the EU.

Commission Regulation (EU) 142/2011 laying down health rules as regards animal by-products and derived products not intended for human consumption.

The model health certificates in Annex XV are amended to make the following changes:

  • Updates health guarantees showing where animal by-products have been excluded from the food chain
  • Updates the evidence required to show the transmissible spongiform encephalopathies status of certain animal by-products
  • Replaces the previous list of HS Codes used to declare any animal by-products in products at border inspection posts.
