APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) & PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) LMR Global - Aerospace Core Tool Training

1 Day Level 1 – Introduction

All of our courses are being held virtually by our expert tutors. Book online below to secure your place.

Held in collaboration with LMR Global - This one-day course specific to the Aerospace Sector is designed to provide participants with an understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and how to implement APQP as part of the New Product Development process. You will also learn about the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), which includes where and when to incorporate prevention tools and methodologies such as DFMEA, MSA, Process Flow, SPC, PFMEA, and Control Plans.

**Please note that we encourage all our delegates sitting on virtual courses to have access to a webcam. This will enable you to interact with both the tutor and other course attendees.**

We have no public courses scheduled for this course right now, get in touch to find out more about booking an in-house training course, call 0800 052 2424 or email us.

Course aims

Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), are methods for controlling the introduction of new product or processes or introducing changes to existing product or processes.

Initially developed by the North American Automotive Industry the methodologies have now been adopted as best practice and  increasingly being utilised by the Aerospace industry to manage and to improve quality, efficiency, cost and delivery. It is often mandated by aerospace and other engineering primary manufacturers as a specific requirement on their suppliers to give them assurance of effective and efficient product and process introduction.

Failure to apply APQP can lead to problems when you scale up your manufacturing production volumes, which can result in an increase in costs and waste of resources to solve ‘teething problems’ and issues that could have been identified initially if a strict APQP process had been applied.

Effective planning along with the utilisation of a cross-functional team at the start of a new project extensively increase the project’s chances of success.

The course provides an overview of the tools, procedures and reporting requirements specified in AS9145; detailing the critical steps in the Product Quality Planning Cycle and the role of the control plan(s).

The AS9145 standard is a structured framework to plan and complete actions for the product realisation cycle which are necessary to ensure quality products are delivered on time, whilst achieving cost performance targets.

It establishes requirements for performing and documenting APQP and PPAP. APQP begins with conceptual product needs and extends through product definition, production planning, product and process validation (PPAP), product use, and after-delivery service. The standard integrates and compliments AS9100, AS9102, AS9103, and AS9110 standard requirements.

What will I learn?

  • What the APQP and PPAP requirements are

  • The purpose and applicability of APQP and PPAP and their importance within the aerospace sector

  • The requirements for a successful introduction of new products

  • The terms and definitions used within AS9145

  • The makeup of a multidiscipline project team

  • The 5 phases of APQP, including the specific inputs and outputs related to each phase

  • The development of control plans for different applications/scenarios as defined within AS9145

  • How to identify PPAP file and submission requirements including customer-specifics

  • How to identify the key linkages between AS9100 requirements and AS9145, AS9102, and AS9103

  • How to implement and audit APQP and also develop an understanding of the links to Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), Control Plans and Product Part Approval Process (PPAP).
