This course aims to provide learners who have an existing, basic knowledge of, or experience in, business continuity management with an understanding of the management systems approach and the requirements of ISO 22301, and to provide a basis for learners who wish to go on to complete CQI and IRCA Certified BCMS Auditor courses.

Course aims

This course is designed for learners who have an existing basic knowledge of, or experience in, business continuity management and of the management system approach - but not of ISO 22301. This course will help such learners apply their prior knowledge in order to understand the key business continuity management related requirements of ISO 22301.

  • How to explain the purpose of a business continuity management system, of business continuity management system standards, and the business benefits of improved performance of the business continuity management system

  • How to outline the structure and content of ISO 22301

  • How to outline the processes involved in establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving a business continuity management system, including the significance of these for BCMS auditors

  • The specific business continuity management related requirements of ISO 22301

  • The terms and definitions defined and used in ISO 22301

  • How to outline the structure and content of ISO 22301 with reference to the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle and the model of a process-based business continuity management system

  • How to define the relationship between the external and internal issues, the relevant requirements of relevant interested parties, the actions to address risks and opportunities, and the business continuity management system processes needed to implement them

  • How to understand the purpose of a business continuity policy, the relationship between the business continuity management system scope and the business continuity management system policy, and the requirements for its content, implementation and review

  • How to explain how the organisation plans, implements and controls the processes needed to meet business continuity management system requirements and how outsourced processes are controlled or influence.

Required Prior Knowledge

Management systems
  • The Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle

  • The core elements of a management system and the interrelationship between management responsibility, policy, planning, implementation, measurement, review and continual improvement.

Business continuity management
  • A basic knowledge of managing business continuity through the conducting of business impact analysis and risk assessment, the development of business continuity strategies and solutions and the implementation of business continuity plans and procedures.

What else do I need to know?

  • Dress code - Smart casual - your cameras will be switched on and delegates and tutors will be able to interact with each other

  • Breaks - There will regular time slots allocated during your course for refreshment/restroom breaks.

  • Proof of attendance - You will be sent a certificate of attendance following your training.

  • What to have with you - You will receive a read-only copy of the relevant standard along with a number of course materials in the days prior to the course starting. Please ensure you have assess to these on the day and contact us if you have not received them.
