Course aims

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third-party audits of Business Continuity Management Systems against ISO 22301, in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO 17021, as applicable.

What will I learn?

  • How to explain the purpose of a business continuity management system, of the related standard(s) and the organisational benefits of a business continuity management system.

  • How to plan, conduct, report and follow up an audit of a business continuity management system to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 22301 and in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 17021 where appropriate).

  • How to explain the Plan-Do-Check-Act framework and its application to business continuity management processes.

  • How to outline the processes involved in establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, measuring, analysing, evaluating, reviewing, maintaining and improving a business continuity management system, including the significance of these for BCMS auditors

  • How to explain the terms and definitions used in ISO 22301 to others.

  • How to state the requirements for BCMS documented information and explain the difference between maintaining and retaining documented information.

  • How to explain the role and responsibilities of an internal auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up a business continuity management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 17021 where appropriate).

Is this course right for me?

Required prior knowledge - this course is aimed at:

  • Current IRCA Lead Auditors who are now seeking registration as an BCMC Auditor / Lead Auditor under the CQI and IRCA scheme

  • Anyone who will be conducting third party BCMS audits

  • Those who will be carrying out internal BCMS audits or audits associated with BCMS of suppliers or vendors.

Recommended prior knowledge

FD131: ISO 22301:2019 Foundation (BCMS) or equivalent

Management Systems

  • Knowledge of management systems audit through satisfactory completion of a CQI and IRCA certificated (or acceptable alternative) Lead Auditor training course in another discipline.

Business Continuity Management

  • Conducting of business impact analysis and risk assessment, the development of business continuity strategies and solutions and the implementation of business continuity plans and procedures.

  • The relationship between business continuity management and an organisation’s overall ability to continue to operate during disruptions, and between business continuity management and the proactive improvement of business continuity performance.

ISO 22301

  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 22301 and the commonly used business continuity management terms and definitions, as given in ISO 22301, which may be gained by completing a CQI and IRCA Certified

What else do I need to know?

  • Dress code - Smart casual - your cameras will be switched on and delegates and tutors will be able to interact with each other.

  • Breaks - There will regular time slots allocated during your course for refreshment/restroom breaks.

  • Proof of attendance - You will be sent a certificate of attendance following your training.

  • What to have with you - We recommend that you have a copy of the relevant standard with you on the day to reference. You will receive a digital copy of all necessary materials before the course starts so please ensure you have access to these on the day and contact us if you have not received them.

  • CQI and IRCA - Delegate data is shared with CQI and IRCA in order to facilitate online examinations. If you have any queries regarding this, please contact training@nqa.com.
